Evergreen Township Minutes March 14th, 2023

The Evergreen Township Board met March 14th for their regular meeting at Todd & Rana Holmer’s home. Present were: Betty Janke, Rana & Todd Holmer, Scott Ulschmid, Dwight Drewes & Brett Jepson.

Todd called the meeting to order. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.

Betty read her treasurer’s report of money paid out, money received, money on hand in savings and checking. Balance on hand is $212,229.14. Todd made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Second by Scott. All present in favor.

Todd made a motion to pay bills. Second by Scott.  All present in favor. Bills presented for payment are as follows:  Lake Region Electric $33.47 for electric at town hall, Dennis Drewes Inc $3570.00 for 18 hours of snow plowing & 7 hours of pushing snow back, Scott Ulschmid $87.50 for quarterly mileage and cell phone reimburse, Brett Jepson $77.50 for quarterly mileage and cell phone reimburse, Todd Holmer $105.00 for quarterly mileage and cell phone reimburse, Betty Janke $50.00 for computer reimburse, Rana Holmer $205.21 for computer, printer ink and stake spray reimburse,  PERA $205.00 and  $1917.77 for total board wages.   No money was needed to be transferred since Becker County deposited in our checking account.  Betty thought we should maybe transfer money from our checking to the savings to get better interest.  Todd motion to transfer $16,000 from checking to savings, second by Scott.  All present in favor.

Todd talked to Merle and he will get us his gradiation report on his gravel.  Todd also talked to Dwight about roads that could maybe use some repair work.  Dwight agreed that 430th needs to be reshaped and approaches moved and fixed.  He thought 460th could also use reshaping to get curve corrected and crown adjusted.  Board sked him to give us a quote for the projects.  L & M sent a postcard regarding brush clipping & weed spraying.  Todd will call for prices on both.  Dwight said he charges $150 to do brush clipping.  Supervisors talked about chloride on 460th which would cost approximately $4500 a mile.  Todd mentioned that we tried to do it a few years ago and asked residents to pay 50% and the majority did not want it, so we never went further with it.

Todd mentioned that him and Rana went to the weed meeting last Thursday and Brandon Gill, the County Ag Inspector is doing a project for the Tansy in the Spruce Grove area and he agreed to do the landowners on our eastern edge who also seem to have issues.  We will get him a list with addresses.

Rana mentioned the short course in Mahnomen on the 3rd and Bemidji on the 5th.  The cost is $75 each and they will bill the township or you can pay that day.  Todd & Rana planning on going to Mahnomen and will drive if anyone else wants to come with them.

Rana also mentioned talking to the bank and it is $175 to drill out the safety deposit box if we can’t find the key.  So far we have had no luck in locating it.  If we don’t find it soon Rana thinks we should just get it drilled out and buy a small fire proof  safe and put the contents in that.  Then it can be passed to who ever is clerk and is large enough it shouldn’t get lost like a key.  Rana also checked with Silverleaf on their current wages and they are at $80 per meeting.  The clerk gets $1000 per year and the treasurer gets $800.  We currently are $75 per meeting, $900 per year for clerk and the treasurer is $700.  We should maybe think about raising wages.

Betty showed us the letter from the IRS stating the issue with them has been fixed.

Having no further business, Todd made a motion to adjourn.  All present in favor.

Respectfully submitted, Rana Holmer, Clerk
