February 2020 Minutes
Evergreen Township Minutes February 10th, 2020
The Evergreen Township Board met February 10th for their regular meeting at Betty Janke’s home. Present were: Betty Janke, Rana & Todd Holmer, Scott Ulschmid and Dwight Drewes. Steve Wilkowski Jr was absent.
Todd called the meeting to order. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.
Betty read her treasurer’s report of money paid out, money received, money on hand in savings and checking. Balance on hand is $105,863.62. Scott made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report. Second by Todd. All present in favor.
Todd made a motion to pay bills. Second by Scott. All present in favor. Bills presented for payment are as follows: Lake Region Electric $35.47 for electric at town hall, Dennis Drewes Inc $3000 for 26.5 hours of snow plowing and for pushing extra snow back at intersections and dead ends, Minnesota Benefit Association $805.00 for board life insurance, Rana Holmer $918.50 for 334 gophers. No transfer of funds required. Still enough in checking from Becker County deposits. All present in favor.
Annual Review of the books. One claim for Reece Ulschmid was figured correctly but, accidently paid $2 less than the claim, otherwise everything else was in order.
Weed meeting is March 26th in Callaway. Supervisor’s will discuss at March meeting as to who is going. The Annual Meeting is next month on March 10th at 7pm at Todd and Rana’s. Presidential Primary is March 3rd. Rana will see if Jule Slevin can judge with her that night and if not Betty will. Prospect House in Battle Lake sent a letter requesting donations and left Rana a voicemail regarding possibly coming to a meeting to speak. Board isn’t interested in donating since it is a significant distance from our township.
Steve reported to Todd and Scott that Larry Knutson, County Commissioner called regarding out snowplowing policy after someone complained to him after the big snowstorm we had in January. Todd and Scott have read the snowplow policy and would like it to be updated. Changes to be made are: the order the roads will be plowed will be up to the contractor to do in the most efficient and cost effective way possible, snow accumulations of 3” or more will be at the discretion of the town board and based on other impending weather forecasts. There will be times where a 3” snowfall will not be plowed. The town board will not request the contractor to go out and plow if there is no travel advised or limited visibility. We do not want to put the contractor in a dangerous situation and will respect their right to go when they feel it is safe also, such as when it is dark and it is easier to see headlights and is usually less traffic on the roads.
Todd also mentioned our ditch clipping and possibility of spraying some of our ditches for noxious weeds this year. Thinking that maybe LM Road Services would be interested in our township if we had them do both for us. Scott agreed and Todd will call and check with them.
Having no further business, Todd made a motion to adjourn. All present in favor.
Respectfully submitted, Rana Holmer, Clerk
